Traditional Curving








In the animal collection, you will find the ‘big five’ among other animals. The attacking animals will be of interest to you. These are well polished and designed to show the animals in diverse attacking positions. Other small items like the animal drinking bowls will make you wonder and marvel at the creativity of the artists. The bending Giraffe or the twisted ones are items that you should not miss.

The elephants come in big or small sizes. They can be made of hand wood or soft wood

The African Elephant: Weight - Male: 5000-7000 kg & Female: 3000-5000kg. Life Expectancy - 55-75 years. Food – It’s a grazer and a browser. They eat grass, roots, tree bark, leaved branches and fruits. Predator - African Lion. Habitat - The African Elephant is very adaptable but prefers areas with clean drinking water, leafy vegetation, shade and enough grass. When Active - It is diurnal and nocturnal and feeds long into the night. It is found in breeding herds that consist of 6-300+ Individuals. A female leads the herd that is made up of juveniles, sub-adults and females. The male bull is normally solitary or found in small bachelor herds. The record weight of a tusk is 103kg, and the record length of a tusk is 3.5 meters. The gestation period is about 20-24 months long, and a mother will give birth to one calf (occasionally two) throughout the year. The elephant has a good sense of smell. They can't tolerate the presence of any predators near them. It is known to chase away Buffalos that have been wallowing in the mud

The biggest ruminant and the tallest mammal. Very long neck with short, upstanding mane, high shoulders sloping steeply to hindquarters; long legs nearly equal in length. Weight - Male 1100-1932 kg & Female 700 1182 kg. Activity - Females spend just over half a 24 hour day browsing, males somewhat less (43%). Night is mostly spent Lying down ruminating, especially hours after dark and before dawn. Bulls spend about 22% of the 24 hours walking; compared to 13% for cows, the extra mileage goes into searching for cows in heat. Giraffes sleep standing for 20 min and give birth standing. Reproduction - Year round, with rainy season conception peak. First pregnant in fourth year, gestation 14 to 14.5 months; Males begin competing for mating at 7 years but continue growing, giving seniors a decided weight and height advantage. Predators - lions and spotted hyenas.
